Incoming Freshmen Reading
All members of the Hood College Class of 2015 will read “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini. The book recounts experiences and emotions of two Afghani women, Mariam and Laila, whose lives become entangled with the recent wars in their country. Mostly bleak and heartrending, their story offers the promise of hope and happiness in a land ravaged by warfare, gender conflicts, and poverty.
About the Author
Khaled Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, and moved to the United States in 1980.He is the author of “The Kite Runner” and “A Thousand Splendid Suns”. He was named a U.S. goodwill envoy to the United National Refugee Agency in 2006. His website is: khaledhosseini.com. Both “The Kite Runner “and “A Thousand Splendid Suns” are New York Times bestsellers and have received critical acclaim.
